The House of Sleep is a great example of a non-linear fiction. The book focuses on sleep issues and obsessions. Gregory who is one of the horrible fictional characters I have ever seen is obsessed with sleep since he thinks sleeping is a disease. Terry is obsessed with rare films while Robert is obsessed with narcoleptic Sarah. Robert has been my favorite character among them but the writer doesn’t let us invest in any of the characters in my opinion. Yet, it is not a bad thing for this book. I haven’t felt distanced either. My favorite part is the one Sarah and Robert went to the beach with the little girl Ruby. It is also one of the key parts in the story.
I was very intrigued by The Rain Before It Falls of Jonathan Coe especially in the emotional aspect and I loved the way the book is narrated through photographs. The House of Sleep relies too much on coincidences in some parts. However, I loved the book in the end. It is difficult not to think the course of the events is impressive. It is well-narrated with the fascinating non-linear fiction and interesting in many ways.

I enjoyed this one as well… although I found it more interesting than entertaining. Recommended.
